The npm package eka-brongkos63-sluey was identified as containing malicious code linked to a large-scale spam campaign associated with the tea.xyz token reward system. This campaign involved flooding the npm registry with over 15,000 spam packages in 2024. The malicious code includes autopublish scripts that automatically generate and publish derivative packages with randomized Indonesian-themed names. These scripts modify package.json files by removing private flags and changing version numbers to enable continuous republishing. The intent is to inflate developer reputation scores to gain rewards from the tea protocol token system, resulting in pollution of the npm registry.
