The npm package tuti-sate54-ruro contains malicious code linked to a large-scale token reward campaign called tea.xyz that flooded npm with over 15,000 spam packages in 2024. This malware uses autopublish scripts to automatically generate and publish derivative packages with randomized Indonesian-themed names. The payload modifies package.json files to remove private flags and changes version numbers to facilitate continuous republishing, thereby polluting the npm registry and inflating developer reputation scores for token rewards.
