Malicious code in karapace-docs (npm) 0 The npm package karapace-docs version 1.0.1 contains malicious code in its preinstall hook that executes automatically during installation. This code collects sensitive system information including hostname, username, home directory, DNS server list, and contents of /etc/passwd and /etc/hosts. It then sends this data as a JSON payload over HTTPS to an attacker-controlled Burp Collaborator subdomain. The package name mimics a legitimate documentation package for karapace, suggesting it is used for dependency confusion or typosquatting attacks. This exfiltration occurs without user interaction upon running npm install. Join the discussion | GCVE Database | 08/05/2026, 13:13:22 UTC Added: 08/05/2026, 15:31:13 UTC |
