Malicious code in octopus-action (npm) 0 The npm package octopus-action version 1.0.1 contains malicious code that executes a preinstall script automatically during installation. This script collects sensitive system information including hostname, OS username, home directory, DNS servers, and contents of /etc/passwd and /etc/hosts, then exfiltrates this data to a third-party controlled server. Installation of this package can lead to full system compromise, requiring immediate secret and key rotation. Removal of the package does not guarantee elimination of all malicious components.
