The npm package 'techportal' version 4.0.10 contains malicious code that executes automatically during installation via a preinstall hook. This code collects host identity information including hostname, username, and current working directory, encodes it, and sends it to a hardcoded attacker-controlled IP address via HTTP headers. If the HTTP request fails, the data is exfiltrated using DNS queries to attacker-controlled domains, bypassing typical HTTP egress controls. There is no user consent or configuration option to disable this behavior, and the package self-labels the data exfiltration as a bug bounty or dual-use tool, which does not mitigate the risk.
