The npm package 'items-validator' version 1.0.5 contains malicious code that launches a persistent background process executing server-supplied JavaScript code with full Node.js require access. This behavior is undisclosed and unrelated to the package's stated purpose as a validator library. The code fetches a payload from a hardcoded external endpoint and executes it after a signature check that is controlled by the package author, providing no independent integrity guarantee. This allows anyone controlling the endpoint or its DNS/TLS to execute arbitrary code as the installing user.
