SectopRAT (also known as ArechClient2) is a .NET-based remote access trojan (RAT) that provides a range of functions through multiple control commands. These include collecting sensitive data from the victim’s device, capturing screens, remotely managing processes and files, controlling bots, and other forms of remote device management.

The domain third-party[.]com, historically used as a documentation placeholder similar to example.com, has been compromised and now serves ClickFix lures to Windows users while displaying harmless content to other operating systems. Since at least June 2026, Windows visitors receive a fake Cloudflare verification page that poisons the clipboard with a malicious PowerShell command, instructing users to press Win+R and paste the payload. The domain appears in over 1,500 files across 1,700+ repositories from trusted sources including Chromium, Sanity, and Vercel. Unlike example.com, third-party[.]com is not IANA-reserved, allowing adversaries to register and weaponize it. The attack leverages social engineering to bypass security tools by using signed Windows binaries, making detection difficult through traditional scanning methods.

ThreatDown researchers discovered CARBONATO, a Docker botnet that exploits exposed Docker daemons on port 2375. The operation was uncovered through an unauthenticated Docker registry exposed since May 2026, revealing two parallel activities: distribution of trojanized cryptocurrency wallet applications and a botnet infrastructure. The botnet leverages Hermes Agent, an MIT-licensed open-source AI framework, modified with a custom prompt directing it to execute commands via Telegram, maintain persistence, and harvest credentials. The campaign infrastructure spans multiple hosting providers including Linode, Hetzner, and Contabo, with activity documented from October 2024 through August 2026.

Multiple organizations experienced attacks beginning with social engineering that led to rogue ScreenConnect installations executing suspicious VBScript files. The attack chain involved four sequential VBScript payloads (1.vbs through 4.vbs) used to profile systems, check for security products, establish persistence, and deploy additional tools. Modified ScreenConnect clients enabled worm-like propagation by automatically transferring and executing these scripts on newly connected endpoints. The attacks included deployment of additional RMM tools like UltraViewer, cryptocurrency miners, and tunneling utilities. Systems were profiled based on installed security products, RAM capacity, and existing ScreenConnect installations. Persistence was achieved through Windows Registry Run Keys and concealed services. The campaign demonstrated sophisticated evasion techniques including AMSI bypass attempts, Windows Defender exclusions, and UAC bypass mechanisms.

The Gentlemen is a ransomware group active since July 2025, operating a Ransomware-as-a-Service model with dual-extortion tactics. They target Windows, Linux, and ESXi systems, focusing on extensive preparation before encrypting data. Their methods include privilege escalation using legitimate tools, persistence via registry and scheduled tasks, disabling security tools, deleting logs, and terminating backup services. They use strong encryption algorithms XChaCha20 and Curve25519. The group primarily targets medium-to-large organizations in the Asia-Pacific region, with a recent surge in activity. Victims face ransom demands with about 10-day deadlines and threats of data publication if unpaid.

A path traversal vulnerability affecting the Windows version of WinRAR allows the attackers to execute arbitrary code by crafting malicious archive files. This vulnerability was exploited in the wild and was discovered by Anton Cherepanov, Peter Košinár, and Peter Strýček from ESET.

A sophisticated supply chain attack compromised the legitimate 3CXDesktopApp softphone application across Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms. The malicious activity involved trojanized signed installers that deployed a compromised ffmpeg.dll binary, establishing HTTPS beacons to attacker-controlled infrastructure and enabling second-stage payload deployment. Analysis revealed the attack utilized specific beacon structures and encryption keys matching infrastructure patterns, with hands-on-keyboard activity observed in targeted cases. The operation affected multiple platforms through signed MSI installers containing malicious components. The attack demonstrated advanced tradecraft through abuse of trusted software distribution channels, requiring immediate removal of affected versions and deployment of behavioral detection capabilities to identify malicious beaconing activity.

A long-running typosquatting campaign impersonated the widely used shopspring/decimal Go library by publishing github.com/shopsprint/decimal, differing by a single character. Active since November 2017, the package remained benign through seven releases until being weaponized in August 2023 with version v1.3.3. This version introduced a malicious init() function that executes automatically on import, establishing a DNS TXT record-based command and control channel to dnslog-cdn-images.freemyip.com. The backdoor polls every five minutes and executes arbitrary commands returned via TXT records. Although the GitHub repository and owner account have been deleted, the malicious module remains permanently cached and accessible through Go's module proxy system, continuing to pose a supply chain risk to developers who mistype the package name.

A Shai-Hulud copycat worm has infected the npm package chalk-tempalte, appearing just five days after the original worm was open-sourced by its creators. The same threat actor also published three additional malicious npm packages containing infostealer code: @deadcode09284814/axios-util, axois-utils, and color-style-utils. These packages collectively received 2,678 weekly downloads and contain various malicious capabilities including credential theft, cryptocurrency wallet exfiltration, cloud configuration harvesting, and DDoS botnet functionality. The malware exfiltrates stolen data to remote command-and-control servers and uploads credentials to GitHub repositories. Researchers indicate the attacker operates from a home computer or local server farm and appears financially motivated, targeting victims' cryptocurrency assets while potentially offering DDoS-as-a-service capabilities.

Beginning in late September 2025, multiple affected hosts were observed making requests to domains impersonating content delivery networks (CDNs), including infrastructure masquerading as Yahoo- and Apple-affiliated services. Across these cases, Darktrace identified a consistent behavioral execution pattern: the retrieval of legitimate binaries alongside malicious Dynamic Link Libraries (DLLs), enabling sideloading and execution of a modular .NET-based Remote Access Trojan (RAT) framework.
