An emerging infostealer tracked as REVSTEALER under REF2859 has gained significant momentum with approximately 4,700 samples identified over the past year. The malware features comprehensive credential harvesting capabilities targeting browsers, VPN applications, password managers, cryptocurrency wallets, and gaming platforms. It incorporates sophisticated anti-analysis mechanisms including a weighted sandbox scoring system and uses Polygon blockchain-based dead drops for resilient infrastructure management. Distribution occurs primarily through social engineering campaigns targeting gamers via compromised YouTube channels advertising fake game cheats, though samples also impersonate legitimate software like Slack and qBittorrent. The malware delivers four additional modules extending capabilities to include wallet theft, clipboard manipulation, reverse proxy functionality, and cryptocurrency mining deployment. Most samples employ VMProtect packing and feature an App-Bound Encryption bypass using debugger-...

A malvertising campaign targeted 29 organizations by exploiting the legitimate Claude.ai domain to distribute a fake ClaudeDesktop.exe containing the SectopRAT remote access trojan. The campaign used advanced anti-analysis techniques such as VMProtect packing, GPU-based VM detection, and DirectX shader-based payload decryption. The malware's command-and-control infrastructure leveraged Ethereum blockchain transactions (EtherHiding) to hide C2 addresses, enhancing resilience against takedowns. SectopRAT exfiltrated sensitive data including credit card information, credentials, browser data, and personal files. The campaign infrastructure is linked to previous operations dating back to December 2025 and associated with known threat groups.

In January 2026, researchers identified a sophisticated malware framework dubbed OkoBot that targets cryptocurrency users through a multi-stage infection chain. The campaign begins with TookPS PowerShell scripts delivered via ClickFix attacks or fake software on GitHub. An automated SSH bot deploys over 20 malicious modules including HDUtil launcher, browser extension injectors installing Rilide stealer, and specialized tools like SeedHunter for wallet seed phrase theft and OkoSpyware for window capture. The framework uses VMProtect obfuscation, UAC bypass techniques, and maintains persistence through RDP access and scheduled tasks. Victims span more than 25 countries with concentrations in Brazil, Vietnam, Canada, Mexico, and Turkey. Attribution suggests Russian-speaking threat actors based on geoblocking patterns and Russian language artifacts.

Arkanix Stealer is a newly discovered information-stealing malware designed for short-term financial gain. Initially developed in Python, it has evolved into a more sophisticated C++ version employing VMProtect obfuscation and a technique called 'Chrome Elevator' to bypass App Bound Encryption. It targets browsers, crypto wallets, VPN accounts, Steam accounts, and system information. Distributed primarily via Discord and online forums disguised as legitimate tools, it offers threat actors a web panel with premium features for managing stolen data. The malware demonstrates advanced capabilities and rapid evolution, highlighting the ease of launching cybercrime operations for quick profits. While no known exploits in the wild have been reported yet, its medium severity reflects the potential impact on confidentiality and financial assets. European organizations using targeted browsers, crypto wallets, or VPN services are at risk, especially those with users active on Discord or similar platforms. Mitigation requires targeted detection of obfuscated binaries, network monitoring for suspicious domains like arkanix.pw, and user education on social engineering risks. Countries with high crypto adoption and active gaming communities are more likely to be affected.
