Red Hat has released an official security update that fixes the improper sanitization of the instance_name parameter in Tuned. Applying the update provided in Red Hat Advisory RHSA-2024:10381 is the recommended remediation. Users should upgrade affected Tuned packages on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Extended Lifecycle Support systems to the fixed version as detailed in the advisory. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor.

Description

CVE-2024-52337 is a medium severity vulnerability in the Tuned package caused by improper input validation of the instance_name parameter in the instance_create() method. This flaw allows an attacker with local privileges to inject newline characters into logs, enabling log spoofing that can mislead administrators by mimicking valid TuneD log lines. The vulnerability affects version 2.23.0 of Tuned. A security update addressing this issue is available from Red Hat.
