What to do
AI-suggested
A fix for this vulnerability is available in the Linux kernel source code as described in the advisory. Users and administrators should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this patch to resolve the infinite loop issue in the iwlwifi driver. Since this is a kernel-level fix, updating to a patched kernel version is the recommended mitigation. No alternative workarounds are indicated.
Description
CVE-2024-53055 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's iwlwifi driver related to 6 GHz scan construction. The issue occurs when more than 255 colocated access points (APs) are found during 2.4/5 GHz scanning, causing an infinite loop due to an 8-bit loop variable overflow. This flaw can lead to a denial of service by causing the scanning process to hang indefinitely. The vulnerability has been fixed by changing the loop variable to a 32-bit type and adjusting the code scope accordingly.
