What to do

AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented in the Linux kernel to address this integer overflow vulnerability. Users and administrators should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this patch. Since this is a kernel vulnerability, upgrading to a fixed kernel version is the recommended mitigation. No alternative workarounds or temporary mitigations are indicated.

Description

CVE-2024-53151 is a medium severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's svcrdma component involving an integer overflow. The flaw arises from improper handling of a user-controlled 32-bit unsigned integer (segcount) in the xdr_check_write_chunk function, which can cause an integer overflow on 32-bit systems. This overflow may lead to a buffer overflow condition during the processing of RDMA receive contexts. The vulnerability was identified through static analysis and has been addressed in the Linux kernel.
