What to do

AI-suggested

A fix is available that redefines the mem_ctrl_idx variable as 64 bits wide to prevent integer overflow. Users should apply the official Linux kernel update that includes this fix. Since no vendor advisory or patch link is provided in the data, users should consult the Linux kernel security advisories or their distribution's updates for the official patch.

Description

CVE-2024-53161 is a medium severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's EDAC/bluefield component involving a potential integer overflow. The issue arises because a 32-bit mem_ctrl_idx variable is left-shifted 16 bits and combined with a DIMM index into a 64-bit argument, causing truncation of the upper 16 bits. This can lead to loss of critical data during the calculation of the SMC call argument. The vulnerability has been fixed by redefining mem_ctrl_idx as a 64-bit variable to prevent overflow.
