CVE-2026-105860: CWE-862: Missing Authorization in payloadcms payload
Description
Payload is a free and open source headless content management system. In @payloadcms/plugin-multi-tenant versions before 3.90.0 and canary versions before 4.0.0-canary.34, the default tenant array field access allows an authenticated user to assign the user's own account to other tenants. Deployments that replace the default behavior with secured tenants arrayFieldAccess.create and tenants arrayFieldAccess.update functions are not affected by this behavior. This issue is fixed in versions 3.90.0 and 4.0.0-canary.34.

Technical Analysis
CVE-2026-105860 is a missing authorization vulnerability (CWE-862) in the PayloadCMS plugin-multi-tenant component. In affected versions, the default tenant array field access permits an authenticated user to assign their own account to tenants they should not have access to. This improper access control can lead to unauthorized tenant assignments. The vulnerability is resolved by securing the tenant arrayFieldAccess.create and update functions. The fix is included starting from version 3.90.0 and 4.0.0-canary.34.
Potential Impact
An authenticated user can exploit this vulnerability to assign their account to tenants they are not authorized to access, potentially leading to unauthorized access or privilege escalation within multi-tenant deployments of PayloadCMS. This could compromise tenant isolation and data confidentiality within the affected system.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade to PayloadCMS plugin-multi-tenant version 3.90.0 or later, or 4.0.0-canary.34 or later, where the issue is fixed. Deployments that have replaced the default tenant array field access with secured arrayFieldAccess.create and update functions are not affected and require no further action.
