Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: 0xJacky
Product: nginx-ui

Description

A vulnerability in 0xJacky's nginx-ui versions 2.0.0 through 2.4.x allows authenticated users to access sensitive node tokens via the /api/nodes and /api/nodes/:id endpoints. These tokens can be used to bypass authentication controls, impersonate trusted nodes, and perform sensitive management operations such as configuration synchronization and service restarts. The issue is resolved in version 2.5.0.

Technical Analysis

The nginx-ui web interface for the Nginx web server contains an information exposure vulnerability (CWE-200) combined with an authentication bypass (CWE-862) in versions 2.0.0 up to but not including 2.5.0. Authenticated users can retrieve serialized node tokens from the /api/nodes and /api/nodes/:id endpoints. These tokens serve as secrets accepted by the AuthRequired mechanism as X-Node-Secret headers, allowing the attacker to impersonate a trusted cluster node. This impersonation grants access to sensitive management operations such as configuration synchronization and service restarts. The vulnerability is fixed in version 2.5.0.

Potential Impact

Exploitation allows an authenticated user to impersonate trusted cluster nodes, potentially leading to unauthorized execution of sensitive management operations including configuration synchronization and service restarts. This can compromise the integrity and availability of the cluster management functions.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to version 2.5.0 or later where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
