CVE-2026-109226: Improper Handling of Highly Compressed Data (Data Amplification) in sgl-project sglang

High
Published: 10/12/2026 (10/12/2026, 15:32:18 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: sgl-project
Product: sglang

Description

SGLang through 0.5.21 contains a decompression amplification vulnerability in load_audio that allows remote attackers to exhaust memory by submitting highly compressed audio decoded without duration or sample limits. Attackers can supply small FLAC-encoded silence files through audio_url or audio_data inputs that expand into massive PCM buffers, exhausting worker memory and CPU for denial of service.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-109226 describes a decompression amplification vulnerability in SGLang through version 0.5.21. The load_audio function does not impose duration or sample limits when decoding highly compressed audio data, allowing attackers to submit small FLAC-encoded silence files that expand into massive PCM buffers. This results in excessive memory and CPU consumption, enabling denial of service attacks remotely without requiring authentication or user interaction.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated remote attacker can cause denial of service by exhausting memory and CPU resources on the affected system. This can disrupt service availability and potentially impact other processes running on the same host.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, consider implementing input validation or limiting resource usage for audio decompression if possible.
