AI-suggested
Users should monitor the vendor's advisories for updates. In the meantime, restricting access to the visitor tracking endpoint and limiting administrator access to trusted users may reduce risk. Applying web application firewall (WAF) rules to detect and block malicious payloads targeting the 'browser' parameter could provide temporary mitigation.
Description
The WP Visitor Statistics (Real Time Traffic) WordPress plugin up to version 8.7.1 is vulnerable to stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) via the 'browser' parameter. This vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to inject malicious scripts that execute in the context of authenticated administrators when viewing affected pages. The issue arises from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping, specifically in how the jqPlot PieRenderer handles HTML-decoded series labels.
