Product: Apache Traffic Server

Description

Apache Traffic Server's experimental tsmemcache plugin has a critical vulnerability (CVE-2026-111811) that allows unauthenticated network read, write, and deletion access to the shared proxy cache. This affects versions from 8.0.0 through 8.1.11, 9.0.0 through 9.2.15, 10.0.0 through 10.1.4, and exactly 10.2.0. The issue is fixed in versions 9.2.16, 10.1.5, and 10.2.1.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-111811 is a missing authentication vulnerability (CWE-306) in the experimental tsmemcache plugin of Apache Traffic Server. It allows unauthenticated remote attackers to perform read, write, and deletion operations on the shared proxy cache over the network. This can lead to complete compromise of cache integrity and availability. The vulnerability affects multiple version ranges of Apache Traffic Server, specifically >=8.0.0 <=8.1.11, >=9.0.0 <=9.2.15, >=10.0.0 <=10.1.4, and =10.2.0. Upgrading to fixed versions 9.2.16, 10.1.5, or 10.2.1 mitigates the issue.

Potential Impact

An attacker can remotely access and manipulate the shared proxy cache without authentication, potentially leading to full compromise of cache data confidentiality, integrity, and availability. This can disrupt proxy operations and expose sensitive cached information.

Mitigation Recommendations

Users should upgrade Apache Traffic Server to versions 9.2.16, 10.1.5, or 10.2.1, which contain official fixes for this vulnerability. No other mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
