AI-suggested

A fix is available in Snipe-IT version 8.6.3. Users should upgrade to version 8.6.3 or later to remediate this authentication bypass vulnerability.

Description

CVE-2026-116199 is a critical authentication bypass vulnerability in Snipe-IT versions before 8.6.3. The flaw exists in the GoogleAuthController::handleGoogleCallback method, which allows users to log in via Google SSO if their username matches the Google account email, without checking if the user is deactivated. This enables deactivated users with email-like usernames and active Google identities to regain access at their original permission levels, including administrative privileges.

Impact

An attacker who controls or has access to a Google account with an email matching a deactivated Snipe-IT username can bypass account deactivation and authenticate successfully. This allows unauthorized access to Snipe-IT with the original user's permission level, potentially including administrative privileges, leading to unauthorized data access or modification.

Summary

Snipe-IT before version 8.6.3 contains an authentication bypass vulnerability in the GoogleAuthController::handleGoogleCallback function. The vulnerability arises because the system logs in users whose usernames match the Google account email without verifying whether the user account is activated. Consequently, deactivated users who have usernames formatted as emails and maintain active Google identities can bypass deactivation and regain sessions with their previous permissions, including admin rights.
