AI-suggested

Red Hat advises applying a code fix to fully mitigate this vulnerability. Until a fix is applied, administrators can add "Restart=on-failure" to the gssproxy systemd unit to enable automatic restarts after a crash, reducing downtime but not preventing crashes. Because the gssproxy Unix socket must remain world-accessible for normal operation, restricting access is not a viable mitigation. Manual intervention or automated restarts are required to restore service after exploitation.

Description

A NULL pointer dereference vulnerability exists in the gssproxy daemon of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10. When a GSSX_INIT_SEC_CONTEXT request is received without the target_name field, the daemon crashes due to dereferencing a NULL pointer. This can be triggered by any local user without authentication via the Unix socket, causing a persistent denial of service as the daemon does not automatically restart. Dependent services such as Kerberized NFS and IdM are also affected while the daemon is down.
