Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CWE-770) involves allocation of resources without limits or throttling in MediaTek chipsets' modem component, leading to a potential system crash. An attacker controlling a rogue base station can trigger this condition remotely, causing denial of service on affected devices. The flaw impacts a broad range of MediaTek chipset models, including MT6813 through MT8883 series. No CVSS score or vendor remediation level is currently available, and no known exploits are reported in the wild.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in a remote denial of service condition causing the affected device's modem to crash. This disrupts normal device operation and connectivity. No additional privileges or user interaction are required, increasing the risk of impact if a device connects to a malicious base station. There is no indication of data compromise or code execution from the provided information.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is released, users should avoid connecting to untrusted or suspicious base stations where possible. Monitor vendor communications for updates regarding patches or mitigations.
