Published: Wed May 13 2026 (05/13/2026, 20:18:12 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: svvqt
Product: pyquorum

Description

CVE-2026-44368 is a timing side-channel vulnerability in the pyquorum cryptographic library versions prior to 0. 2. 1. The vulnerability arises from the mul_mod function, which performs multiplication using a binary expansion loop whose execution time depends on the Hamming weight of the exponent. An attacker able to measure the timing of secret-sharing operations could gradually recover secret shares, potentially reconstructing the secret. This issue has been fixed in version 0. 2. 1 of pyquorum.

Technical Analysis

PyQuorum versions before 0.2.1 contain a timing side-channel vulnerability (CWE-208) in the mul_mod function used for secret sharing and key management. The function's execution time varies based on the Hamming weight of the exponent, allowing an attacker with timing measurement capabilities to infer secret share values. This can lead to the progressive recovery of secret shares and ultimately secret reconstruction. The vulnerability is addressed in pyquorum version 0.2.1.

Potential Impact

An attacker who can remotely measure the timing of secret-sharing operations may exploit this vulnerability to recover secret shares by analyzing timing discrepancies. This undermines the confidentiality of secrets managed by pyquorum prior to version 0.2.1. There are no known exploits in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to pyquorum version 0.2.1 or later, where this timing side-channel vulnerability has been fixed. No other mitigation actions are indicated.
