Users should monitor the vendor's advisory for updates. Until a fix is available, restrict subscriber-level access to trusted users only and consider disabling or limiting the use of the Freemius SDK's purchase-completion features if possible. Administrators should be cautious when viewing admin pages and consider additional security controls such as Content Security Policy (CSP) to mitigate script execution.
Description
The Password Protected WordPress plugin is vulnerable to stored cross-site scripting (XSS) via the Freemius SDK's purchase-completion handler in versions up to 2.8.4. Authenticated users with subscriber-level access or higher can inject malicious scripts through the 'purchased_plan' parameter, which are then stored and executed when an administrator views admin pages. This occurs due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping in the plugin's handling of this parameter.
