Product: next.js

Description

Next.js versions from 13.0.0 up to but excluding 15.5.28, and from 16.0.0 up to but excluding 16.4.1, contain a vulnerability where crafted requests targeting App Router applications with Server Actions can cause excessive CPU usage and block further request processing in the same process. Applications using the Pages Router or App Router without Server Actions are not affected. This issue is fixed in versions 15.5.28 and 16.4.1.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-94482 is a resource exhaustion vulnerability (CWE-770) in the Next.js React framework. Specifically, crafted requests targeting App Router applications that include at least one Server Action can cause excessive CPU consumption, leading to denial of service by blocking further request processing in the affected process. The vulnerability affects Next.js versions >=13.0.0 <15.5.28 and >=16.0.0 <16.4.1. Applications using the Pages Router or App Router without Server Actions are not impacted. The issue is resolved in versions 15.5.28 and 16.4.1.

Potential Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability can cause excessive CPU consumption in the affected Next.js server process, resulting in denial of service by blocking processing of further requests in the same process. This can degrade application availability for users relying on vulnerable versions with App Router and Server Actions.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Next.js to version 15.5.28 or later in the 15.x series, or to version 16.4.1 or later in the 16.x series, where this issue is fixed. No other mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory.
