Technical Analysis

CVE-2024-37058 is a deserialization of untrusted data vulnerability affecting MLflow platform versions starting from 2.5.0 up to but not including 2.14.2. The vulnerability arises when a malicious Langchain AgentExecutor model is uploaded, which can trigger arbitrary code execution on the system of the user interacting with the model. This issue is classified as high severity and a patch is available to address it.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the end user's system by leveraging a maliciously uploaded Langchain AgentExecutor model. This can lead to full compromise of the affected system depending on the privileges of the user running the MLflow platform.

Mitigation Recommendations

A patch is available for this vulnerability. Users should upgrade MLflow to version 2.14.2 or later to remediate this issue. Since this is not a cloud service, remediation requires applying the patch or upgrading the software in the affected environment.
