AI-suggested

A patch is available and the vulnerability is fixed in Snakemake version 9.20.0_1. Users should upgrade to this version or later to remediate the issue. Until patched, avoid using untrusted input for the section parameter in config_writer() to prevent injection.

Description

A vulnerability in GitPython's config_writer() allows newline injection in the section parameter, bypassing the patch for CVE-2026-42215. This enables an attacker to inject arbitrary section headers into the .git/config file, including a forged [core] section with hooksPath pointing to an attacker-controlled directory. This leads to remote code execution (RCE) when any git hook is triggered. The issue affects Snakemake versions >=5.5.3 and <9.20.0_1 and is fixed in version 9.20.0_1.
