AI-suggested

A patch is available in GitPython version 1.2.0.post0_10 that properly validates the section parameter to prevent newline injection. Users should upgrade to this version or later to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are required if the patch is applied.

Description

GitPython versions prior to 1.2.0.post0_10 contain a vulnerability where the patch for CVE-2026-42215 is incomplete. The set_value() method validates newlines only in the value parameter but not in the section or option parameters. An attacker controlling the section parameter can inject newline characters to create arbitrary section headers in the .git/config file, including a malicious [core] section with hooksPath pointing to attacker-controlled directories. This leads to remote code execution (RCE) when a git hook is triggered.
