A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's Thunderbolt property parser (__tb_property_parse_dir) allows a crafted peer to cause unbounded recursion, exhausting the kernel stack and triggering a guard page fault. This occurs because a DIRECTORY entry's value is used as a directory offset for recursive calls without a recursion depth limit. The issue affects the PROPERTIES_REQUEST control-plane exchange and can be triggered by any untrusted XDomain peer without authentication. The vulnerability has been resolved by introducing a recursion depth limit of 8. Operators can also disable XDomain host-to-host discovery to mitigate the risk.
