MAL-2026-6797: Malicious code in mongoose-lean-hooks (npm)

0
Critical
Published: 07/06/2026 (07/06/2026, 18:01:34 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: mongoose-lean-hooks

Description

The mongoose-lean-hooks npm package versions 0.5.2 and 0.5.3 contain malicious code. Any system with this package installed should be considered fully compromised, as the malicious code may have granted full control to an outside entity. Immediate removal of the package is recommended, but this may not fully eliminate the threat. All secrets and keys on the affected system should be rotated from a separate, uncompromised device.

Technical Analysis

The mongoose-lean-hooks package versions 0.5.2 and 0.5.3 distributed via npm contain malicious code that compromises any computer running or having installed these versions. The compromise is severe enough to consider the system fully controlled by an attacker, necessitating secret and key rotation from a different machine. Removal of the package alone does not guarantee removal of all malicious artifacts or backdoors introduced by the package.

Potential Impact

Systems with mongoose-lean-hooks versions 0.5.2 or 0.5.3 installed are fully compromised. Attackers may have gained full control, potentially exposing all stored secrets and keys. The integrity and confidentiality of the affected system cannot be assured without comprehensive remediation.

Mitigation Recommendations

Remove the mongoose-lean-hooks package versions 0.5.2 and 0.5.3 immediately. Rotate all secrets and keys stored on the compromised system from a separate, secure computer. Because full control may have been granted to attackers, consider rebuilding or thoroughly cleaning the affected system to ensure complete removal of malicious software.
