Technical Analysis

The stacknova package version 1.0.0 distributed via npm is identified as containing malicious code that grants full control of the compromised system to an attacker. This results in a complete system compromise, including potential exposure of secrets and keys. Due to the nature of the compromise, simply uninstalling the package may not eliminate all malicious artifacts or backdoors installed by the attacker.

Potential Impact

Any system with stacknova version 1.0.0 installed or running is considered fully compromised. Attackers may have gained full control over the system, potentially accessing or exfiltrating sensitive data such as secrets and keys. This poses a critical risk to confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected system and its data.

Mitigation Recommendations

Remove the stacknova package version 1.0.0 immediately from all affected systems. Rotate all secrets and keys stored on the compromised systems from a separate, trusted environment. Due to the full compromise, consider rebuilding or thoroughly cleaning affected systems to ensure removal of all malicious software. Monitor for any signs of persistent compromise.
