Description

Open Access Management (OpenAM) prior to version 16.1.1 contains a vulnerability in the Liberty Web Services SOAP receiver that allows unauthenticated remote attackers to write persistent entries into a user's Liberty Discovery store and the shared root-realm Discovery branch. This occurs because server-side handlers bypass requester LDAP and identity ACLs, using an internal administrative token for the global path. This can lead to manipulated service-routing or security-mechanism records in deployments consuming Liberty discovery data. The issue is fixed in version 16.1.1.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-45052 affects OpenAM versions prior to 16.1.1. The Liberty Web Services SOAP receiver permits unauthenticated remote requests to write persistent entries via SOAPReceiver and DiscoveryService into Liberty Discovery stores, bypassing LDAP and identity ACLs due to server-side handlers using an internal administrative token. This vulnerability allows attackers to manipulate service-routing or security-mechanism records. The vulnerability is resolved in OpenAM version 16.1.1.

Potential Impact

Unauthenticated remote attackers can write persistent entries into Liberty Discovery stores, bypassing access controls. This can lead to manipulation of service-routing or security-mechanism records, potentially impacting the integrity of access management deployments that rely on Liberty discovery data. No known exploits in the wild have been reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade OpenAM to version 16.1.1 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
