Red Hat has released security updates for OpenEXR in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 and related variants. Users should apply the provided updates as described in the Red Hat advisory RHSA-2026:38498 and the referenced article https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258 to remediate these vulnerabilities. No additional mitigation actions are indicated beyond applying the official patches.
Description
Two security vulnerabilities have been identified in OpenEXR, an open-source high-dynamic-range image file format library. The first vulnerability (CVE-2026-41142) involves an integer overflow in image resizing that could lead to arbitrary code execution. The second vulnerability (CVE-2026-42216) allows information disclosure and denial of service via malformed EXR files. Red Hat has issued an important security advisory and released updates for OpenEXR in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 to address these issues.
