Red Hat recommends upgrading to a fixed version once available or consulting with Red Hat Technical Account Managers for tailored guidance. Avoid extracting untrusted tar archives with vulnerable Python versions until a fix is provided.

Description

A vulnerability exists in the Python standard library tarfile.extractall() function that allows a specially crafted archive to bypass security filters via a hardlink referencing a symlink. This can lead to files being read or written outside the intended extraction directory, potentially causing information disclosure or arbitrary file modification. The flaw affects Red Hat AI Base Images 3.3.5 (ROCm 7.0) as shipped in Red Hat OpenShift AI.
