Currently, no mitigation or patch is available that meets Red Hat's standards for deployment and stability. Red Hat recommends reviewing this CVE with a Technical Account Manager if applicable. No generic mitigations are provided by Red Hat at this time.
Description
A vulnerability in the Python tarfile.extractall() function allows a remote attacker to craft a malicious archive that bypasses security filters by using a hardlink referencing a symlink. This can lead to files being read or written outside the intended extraction directory, potentially causing information disclosure or arbitrary file modification. The flaw affects the CPython tarfile module shipped in Red Hat python3 packages, but not other similarly named packages or implementations in other languages.
