AI-suggested

Red Hat recommends configuring or updating applications linked to libssh2 to exclusively use public key authentication, thereby disabling password-based logins and preventing use of the vulnerable userauth_password function. Applying the update to Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs that include the fixed libssh2 library is also advised. No explicit patch versions are provided; check Red Hat advisories for updates.

Description

CVE-2026-7598 is an integer overflow vulnerability in the libssh2 library's userauth_password function. An attacker can supply excessively large username or password lengths to trigger a heap-based buffer overflow, causing application crashes and potentially enabling arbitrary code execution. Default Red Hat Enterprise Linux security features reduce the likelihood of exploitation. Mitigation includes disabling password-based authentication in favor of public key authentication.
