What to do

AI-suggested

Red Hat has released updated RPM packages (bootupd-0.2.36-3.hum1 and rust-bootupd-0.2.36-3.hum1) for Red Hat Hardened Images that include the fix for this vulnerability. Users should apply these updates to remediate the issue. Additionally, applications should ensure that all integrity check values are properly verified according to protocol specifications before processing messages, explicitly verifying that received integrity values match calculated checksums to prevent malicious data injection.

Description

CVE-2026-75803 is a vulnerability in OpenSSL where the EVP_Cipher() function skips AEAD tag verification for ChaCha20-Poly1305 and AES-OCB ciphers when decrypting empty ciphertexts. This flaw allows remote attackers to submit forged messages that affected applications may incorrectly accept as valid. The issue requires a rare API misuse pattern and does not affect standard TLS implementations or typical EVP_Decrypt* workflows. There is no impact on confidentiality, but limited message forgery (integrity impact) is possible. OpenSSL FIPS modules are not affected. Red Hat has issued an update for the Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs including rust-bootupd to address this issue.
