Description

A TOCTOU (Time-of-Check-Time-of-Use) race condition vulnerability exists in the fixfiles script of policycoreutils in Red Hat Hardened Images. The vulnerability allows a local attacker to exploit a race window during filesystem relabeling operations to manipulate SELinux labels on arbitrary system files, potentially undermining SELinux protections on critical files like /etc/shadow. The attack requires local access, winning a race condition, and an administrator running fixfiles relabel or fixfiles restore, limiting practical exploitation. A workaround is to use 'restorecon -R /' directly instead of the vulnerable fixfiles commands. Red Hat has not yet released a fix for this issue and is still analyzing affected versions.
