What to do

AI-suggested

A security update is available from Red Hat for the affected gnupg2 packages in Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs. Applying this update (gnupg2 version 2.4.9-18.1.hum1) will address the vulnerability. No other mitigations are currently recommended or meet Red Hat's criteria for ease of use and applicability.

Description

A vulnerability (CVE-2026-105712) in the gpgtar utility of GnuPG allows an attacker to craft an archive that, when extracted, can overwrite files outside the intended directory by following symbolic links. Exploitation requires local user interaction and a pre-conditioned filesystem with existing symlinks. The impact is limited by the privileges of the user performing the extraction. Red Hat has issued an update for Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs including gnupg2 packages to address this issue. No mitigation other than applying the update is currently recommended.
