AI-suggested
Red Hat recommends upgrading to go-billy library versions 5.9.0 or later, or 6.0.0-alpha.1 or later, which contain the fix for this vulnerability. Additionally, installing Red Hat Web Terminal Operator 1.17.2 on OpenShift Container Platform 4.22 or higher ensures the use of fixed components. No other mitigations are specified by Red Hat.
Description
CVE-2026-44740 is a denial of service vulnerability in the go-billy library, a Go filesystem abstraction used by Red Hat Web Terminal Operator. The flaw arises from insufficient validation and missing safety mechanisms when processing crafted or malformed input, such as untrusted repository data or filesystem structures. This can cause panics, infinite loops, uncontrolled recursion, or excessive resource consumption, impacting availability. Red Hat Web Terminal Operator 1.17.2 addresses this issue by recommending use on OpenShift Container Platform 4.22 or higher and upgrading the go-billy library to fixed versions.
