AI-suggested

Red Hat has released updated libxml2 RPMs (version 2.15.3-0.1.3.hum1) that fix this vulnerability. Users should apply these updates to Red Hat Hardened Images to remediate the issue. Until patched, avoid processing untrusted XML catalog files with applications linked against libxml2. Restrict applications from loading external XML catalogs or ensure only trusted catalogs are used.

Description

A vulnerability in libxml2's XML catalog parsing can cause a denial of service (DoS) due to a NULL pointer dereference when a nextCatalog element lacks its mandatory catalog attribute. This flaw requires processing a specially crafted XML catalog by an application using libxml2, leading to application crashes. The issue affects Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs and has been addressed in updated libxml2 packages.
