AI-suggested

Red Hat currently does not provide a mitigation that meets their criteria for ease of use, deployment, applicability, or stability. The recommended action is to apply the updated alsa-lib packages provided in the Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs update (version 1.2.16.1-2.1.hum1). Users should follow Red Hat's update instructions at https://images.redhat.com/ to deploy the fixed packages. No other mitigations are currently available.

Description

CVE-2026-90781 is an off-by-one stack buffer overflow vulnerability in the alsa-lib component of Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs. A local attacker can exploit this flaw by providing a specially crafted long control-element identifier string, causing a one-byte overflow past a 64-byte buffer. This leads to adjacent stack memory corruption and results in a denial of service (DoS) by crashing the calling process. No patch or mitigation meeting Red Hat's criteria is currently available.
