AI-suggested
A fix is available in klauspost/compress version 1.20.2 and corresponding Red Hat builds (e.g., loki3.6-3.6.19-0.3.hum1). Apply the official update from Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs to remediate this vulnerability. Until patched, mitigate risk by rejecting or filtering untrusted Zstandard compressed payloads at ingress proxies or restricting decompression endpoints to authenticated and trusted clients. No direct configuration-level workaround exists within the library itself.
Description
A vulnerability (CVE-2026-116591) was found in the klauspost compress library's Zstandard (zstd) decompression implementation used in Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs. The flaw is an integer handling error in the decompression logic that leads to an out-of-bounds read and an unhandled panic, causing the application to crash and resulting in a denial of service (DoS). This affects applications decompressing untrusted zstd inputs. No direct workaround exists within the library itself, but filtering untrusted inputs or restricting decompression to trusted clients can mitigate risk until patched versions are applied.
