AI-suggested
A fixed version of the klauspost compress library (version 1.20.2 or later) is available and included in updated Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs (tempo2.10-2.10.9-0.2.hum1). Applying this update fully remediates the vulnerability. If you cannot patch yet, mitigate by rejecting or filtering untrusted Zstandard compressed payloads at ingress proxies or restricting decompression endpoints to authenticated, trusted clients. No direct configuration-level workaround exists within the library itself. Applying the official patch is the recommended remediation.
Description
A vulnerability (CVE-2026-116591) in the klauspost compress library's Zstandard (zstd) decompression implementation allows a remote attacker to cause a denial of service (DoS) by submitting a specially crafted compressed stream. The flaw is due to an integer handling error that leads to an out-of-bounds read and an unhandled panic, crashing the application. This affects applications decompressing untrusted zstd input using the vulnerable library. The impact is isolated by container boundaries and non-root execution. Mitigations include rejecting or filtering untrusted zstd payloads or restricting decompression to trusted clients. A fixed version of the library (klauspost/compress 1.20.2+) is available and included in updated Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs.
