Upgrade to version 2.3.0 or later of the Rust 'zip' crate, where this vulnerability is fixed. Users should avoid extracting untrusted ZIP archives with affected versions. No other mitigations are specified.
Description
The Rust 'zip' crate versions from 1.3.0 up to but not including 2.3.0 contain a vulnerability in the archive extraction routine. This flaw allows symbolic links earlier in the archive to be used by later files without proper validation of the final canonicalized path. As a result, maliciously crafted ZIP archives can overwrite arbitrary files on the filesystem during extraction, potentially with arbitrary file permissions. This can lead to critical system files being overwritten and may enable code execution. The issue is fixed in version 2.3.0.
