AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied promptly. Ubuntu has released fixed OpenSSH package versions for multiple LTS releases, including 26.04, 24.04, 22.04, 20.04, 18.04, 16.04, and 14.04. Users should update their OpenSSH packages to the versions specified in Ubuntu security notices USN-8533-1 and USN-8804-1. Standard system updates will apply the necessary fixes. No additional mitigation actions are required beyond applying the official patches.
Description
OpenSSH versions prior to 10.4 contain a vulnerability in the sshd component where the MaxAuthTries limit is mishandled for GSSAPI authentication. This flaw allows remote attackers to perform excessive authentication attempts, leading to resource exhaustion and a denial of service condition. The issue has been assigned CVE-2026-60000 and carries a CVSS 3.1 score of 7.5 (medium severity). Ubuntu has released patches addressing this and other OpenSSH vulnerabilities across multiple LTS releases. Users are advised to update to the fixed package versions to mitigate the risk.
