Description

Tobit Laboratories AG TeamDavid's Webbox application contains a buffer overflow vulnerability in an API endpoint. An unauthenticated attacker can submit a specially crafted JSON body, at least 8 characters long and beginning with a number, to cause a server crash resulting in denial of service. Under certain conditions, such as disclosure of a stack canary, this vulnerability could lead to remote code execution and full server compromise. The issue affects TeamDavid through Rollout 524. No patch or official remediation information is currently available.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in TeamDavid's Webbox application is a buffer overflow condition triggered by a crafted JSON payload submitted to an API endpoint. This can cause the server to crash, leading to denial of service. The vulnerability is unauthenticated and may allow remote code execution if combined with other vulnerabilities that disclose stack canaries or affect stack state. The affected versions include TeamDavid through Rollout 524. No patch or fix details are provided in the available data.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker can cause denial of service by crashing the server via a buffer overflow. Additionally, if the stack state is favorable or a stack canary can be disclosed through another vulnerability, this flaw could be exploited for remote code execution, potentially leading to full compromise of the server.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, monitor for updates from Tobit Laboratories AG and consider restricting access to the vulnerable API endpoint if possible.
