High
Published: 07/08/2026 (07/08/2026, 21:16:00 UTC)
Source: GCVE Database
Product: nats-server

Description

NATS Server versions prior to 2.14.3 and 2.12.12 contain a vulnerability where a client sending account-scoped connection monitoring requests with specially crafted Connz pagination Offset and Limit values can cause an arithmetic overflow. This overflow leads to a server crash. The issue has been fixed in versions 2.14.3 and 2.12.12. The vulnerability affects several specific Ubuntu package versions of nats-server. No known exploits are reported in the wild.

Technical Analysis

NATS Server, a high-performance messaging server for NATS.io, has a denial-of-service vulnerability in versions before 2.14.3 and 2.12.12. The flaw arises when a client sends connection monitoring requests with Offset and Limit parameters that overflow internal arithmetic calculations before the response window is bounded, causing the server to crash. This vulnerability is fixed in versions 2.14.3 and 2.12.12. The affected Ubuntu package versions include multiple releases from 2.9.19-1build1 through 2.10.27-1build1. The CVSS 3.1 vector indicates network attack vector, low attack complexity, low privileges required, no user interaction, scope changed, no confidentiality or integrity impact, but high availability impact.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in a denial-of-service condition by crashing the NATS Server, impacting availability. There is no confidentiality or integrity impact. The vulnerability requires an attacker with low privileges to send crafted monitoring requests over the network.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade affected NATS Server installations to version 2.14.3 or 2.12.12 or later, where the vulnerability is fixed. Since this is not a cloud service, manual patching is required. No other mitigation or workaround is indicated.
