Technical Analysis

The Zabbix Agent 2 Docker plugin improperly sanitizes input parameters named 'docker.container_info' when these are forwarded to the Docker daemon. This improper sanitization enables an attacker who can invoke Agent 2 to inject crafted parameters that exploit the Docker archive API, resulting in unauthorized reading of arbitrary files from running Docker containers. The vulnerability is identified as CWE-88 (Improper Neutralization of Argument Delimiters in a Command).

Potential Impact

An attacker with high privileges to invoke Zabbix Agent 2 can read sensitive files from running Docker containers, potentially exposing confidential data. The vulnerability does not allow modification or denial of service but compromises confidentiality.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official fix information is currently available. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is released, restrict access to Zabbix Agent 2 to trusted users only to prevent exploitation.
