ScreenToGif is a screen recording tool. In versions from 2.42.1 and prior, ScreenToGif is vulnerable to DLL sideloading via version.dll . When the portable executable is run from a user-writable directory, it loads version.dll from the application directory instead of the Windows System32 directory, allowing arbitrary code execution in the user's context. This is especially impactful because ScreenToGif is primarily distributed as a portable application intended to be run from user-writable locations. At time of publication, there are no publicly available patches. Join the discussion | CVE Database V5 | 03/20/2026, 20:29:13 UTC Added: 03/20/2026, 20:39:21 UTC |
D-Link D-View 8 versions 2.0.1.107 and below contain an uncontrolled search path vulnerability in the installer. When executed with elevated privileges via UAC, the installer attempts to load version.dll from its execution directory, allowing DLL preloading. An attacker can supply a malicious version.dll alongside the legitimate installer so that, when a victim runs the installer and approves the UAC prompt, attacker-controlled code executes with administrator privileges. This can lead to full system compromise. Join the discussion | CVE Database V5 | 01/21/2026, 18:02:30 UTC Added: 01/21/2026, 18:20:56 UTC |
0 The MSI installer for Splashtop Streamer for Windows before 3.6.0.0 uses a temporary folder with weak permissions during installation. A local user can exploit this to escalate privileges to SYSTEM by placing a version.dll file in the folder.
