Multiple Plex Media Server vulnerabilities announced in September 2026 are being actively exploited to deploy cryptominers and proxy software. The exploitation chains together four CVEs to achieve remote code execution on vulnerable Plex servers. A honeypot deployment captured exploitation attempts from multiple IP addresses starting October 17, 2026. Attackers deployed XMRig cryptominer and myawesomeproxy software on compromised systems. The proxy tool potentially enables threat actors to utilize residential IPs for accessing corporate VPNs and email systems. Exploitation was observed from IP addresses 45.194.92.222, 91.92.40.202, and 176.65.139.228, with malicious payloads downloaded from 217.60.194.116. The vulnerabilities affect Plex Media Server version 1.43.2 and earlier, with proof-of-concept code publicly available through the plex2shell project.

Check Point has released urgent security updates addressing three critical vulnerabilities affecting Security Management, Multi-Domain Management, Quantum Security Gateway, and Gaia operating systems. The most severe vulnerability, CVE-2026-16232, allows unauthenticated remote attackers to bypass SmartConsole login and gain full administrative access to exposed Management Servers. The vulnerability has been actively exploited against customers with internet-exposed management infrastructure. Successful exploitation enables attackers to modify firewall policies, create administrator accounts, weaken security protections, and establish persistent access. Two additional vulnerabilities were patched: CVE-2026-62144 enabling unauthenticated command execution, and CVE-2026-62145 allowing privilege escalation from read-only to root access. CISA added CVE-2026-16232 to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog with an exceptionally short remediation deadline, reflecting the severity of this authentication bypass...

Chinese-speaking threat actors, dubbed UAT-6382, have been exploiting a remote-code-execution vulnerability (CVE-2025-0994) in Cityworks, a popular asset management system. The attacks, which began in January 2025, target local governing bodies in the United States, focusing on utilities management systems. The threat actors deploy various web shells, including AntSword and Chopper, and use custom Rust-based loaders called TetraLoader to deliver Cobalt Strike beacons and VSHell malware. The attackers conduct reconnaissance, enumerate directories, and stage files for exfiltration. Their tooling and tactics indicate a high level of proficiency in the Chinese language, suggesting a Chinese origin for the threat group.

A new Dero mining campaign exploits insecurely published Docker APIs to spread through containerized Linux environments. The attack uses two Golang malware implants: 'nginx' for propagation and 'cloud' for cryptocurrency mining. The 'nginx' malware scans for vulnerable Docker APIs, creates malicious containers, and compromises existing ones. It maintains persistence and spreads without a command-and-control server. The 'cloud' miner is based on the open-source DeroHE CLI project, with hardcoded wallet and node addresses. This campaign differs from previous attacks on Kubernetes clusters by actively spreading and compromising more networks. The threat highlights the importance of securing containerized infrastructures and monitoring for malicious activities.
