A flaw was found in dracut. The die() error-handling function writes its message into a shell script under the initramfs emergency-hook directory… (CVE-2026-15816)CVE-2026-15816
0

A vulnerability in dracut's die() error-handling function allows an adjacent-network attacker controlling a rogue DHCP server to inject shell commands via the DHCP ROOT_PATH option. This injection occurs because the error message is written into a shell script without proper shell-quoting, leading to root code execution during boot-failure handling when dracut sources emergency hook scripts. The issue affects systems performing network boot with DHCP-supplied ROOT_PATH values and requires the netroot handler resolution to fail, triggering the emergency shell mechanism.
